I have been involved with a lot of woodland creation projects. Most people don’t realise what a huge threat grey squirrels are to the survival of young trees.

So the news that Pine Marten have successfully bred in Dartmoor is hugely welcome. These creature predate squirrels but find greys far easier targets. This in turn, provides space for native red squirrels to return.
